Our Community

Saint Patrick’s Party

Every year, on or near Saint Patrick’s Day, we host our signature event, a party for about 100 intellectually-disabled adults at our church.  Our guests have fun, play games, eat, socialize, and take home quite a few gifts with them.  Especially since they do not have much money to spare, the gifts, which includes clothes and toiletries, are very important and helpful.

Mosaic is a group of homes for intellectually-challenged adults that is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  We have been blessed to work with one of their homes in South Bend.  In tending to our ongoing partnership with them, they are the focus of our Christmas giving, we’ve built vegetable gardens at their house, and more.

Hope Ministries

Based in downtown South Bend, Hope Ministries works with persons who experience deep poverty, homelessness, and much more.  They seek to bring healing and transformation to people by providing housing, food, and healthcare.  At Hilltop, we prepare and serve dinners to the community of Hope Ministries about four times each year.

Broadway Christian Parish

A congregation of the United Methodist Church in South Bend, Broadway Christian Parish serves many people through its food pantry and by providing showers, fresh clothing, and laundry facilities.  They also have a Christmas store each year to assist families with food and Christmas gifts.  Hilltop contributes regularly to the food pantry and the Christmas story of Broadway.

Saint Margaret’s House

Located in downtown South Bend, St. Margaret’s House improves the lives of women and children by providing individual attention to their immediate needs, breaking the bonds of isolation and helping them acquire skills to better their lives. Hilltop contributes regularly to St. Margaret’s House and participates in their annual Winter Walk.

Pet Refuge

Pet Refuge is a not-for-profit “no-kill” animal shelter established in April 1978.  Pet Refuge is run by volunteers for the placement of unwanted and abandoned pets into responsible permanent homes.  Hilltoppers regularly provide food for Pet Refuge, thus helping take care of some of God’s furry friends.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Others

Through regular financial contributions and occasional hands-on projects, Hilltop regularly helps in various ministries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and its various organizations.  Additionally, depending upon the interests of our members, we have been involved with numerous other benevolent organizations over the years.
